This heirloom print is handcrafted in the United Kingdom and features the striking artwork of Philip D. Hawkins, a founding member of the Guild of Railway Artists. His vivid and highly-detailed imagery captures engine number 4472 at Newcastle Station as it prepares for its onward journey to Kings Cross – perfectly capturing the glorious age of steam. That’s not all – a lower panel showcases a 24-carat gold-plated commemorative, celebrating the moment that Flying Scotsman emerged from the Doncaster Works in 1923. Further panels depict a vintage design of a regal lion holding the rose of London and the thistle of Edinburgh – symbols of the engine’s famous cross country route – in addition to the February 1923 date when the Pride of Doncaster debuted its apple-green livery. A central panel includes Flying Scotsman’s name plate as well as the emblem marking the locomotive’s impressive 100th anniversary. A final inset includes a dynamic illustration of Flying Scotsman in golden tones thundering down the tracks, alongside technical details about the locomotive.
